Biography
Maddalena Crippa is an Italian film, television and stage actress. She was born on 4 September 1957 in Besana in Brianza, Lombardy. She began acting in amateur theatre as a child and, at the age of seventeen, impressed director Giorgio Strehler during auditions for the Piccolo Teatro drama school in Milan, leading to a role in his 1975 production of Carlo Goldoni's Il campiello.
Crippa has maintained a busy theatre career, collaborating with directors including Giancarlo Cobelli, Luca Ronconi and her husband Peter Stein. She has also appeared in films and television series. Her film roles include Giovanna in Francesco Rosi's Three Brothers (1981) and Lisa Sole in No Thanks, Coffee Makes Me Nervous (1982). She played Lucia Amato in the series Inspector Rex (1994) and appeared in Forgive Us Our Debts (2018).
In 1981 she received the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Three Brothers. She has a brother, the actor Giovanni Crippa, and has been married to Stein since 1999.
