Biography
Maegan Houang is an American writer and director. She graduated from Wesleyan University in 2010 with degrees in Mathematical Economics and Film Studies, and later earned a master’s degree in Film Studies there.
She began her television career as a writer’s assistant and staff writer on the Starz series Counterpart (2018–2019). She served as story editor and writer on the FX series Shōgun (2024) and as writer and co-producer on the HBO series The Sympathizer (2024). She has also directed episodes of Three Busy Debras (2022). Her feature writing credits include co-writing Jamojaya (2023).
Houang has directed the short films In Full Bloom (2019) and Astonishing Little Feet (2023), as well as music videos. In 2023 she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film”. She shared Writers Guild of America Awards for drama series and new series for Shōgun.
