Biography
Makalla McPherson is a British writer and director from London. She began directing music videos and short films before moving into television drama. She graduated from the London Film School with an MA in Screenwriting in 2016, having originally enrolled on the filmmaking course.
McPherson has directed episodes of Doctors (2013–2019), Apple Tree House (2018–2019), EastEnders (2021), Waterloo Road (2023), Queenie (2024) and an episode of Doctor Who (2025). She also served as main and second unit director on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023). In 2018 she wrote her debut stage play When the Lights Go Out, staged at the Oval Theatre with Arts Council support. She was mentored by Coky Giedroyc on the BBC drama What Remains and participated in the Creative Diversity Network scheme.
