Biography

Makoto Nagahisa is a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He was born on 2 August 1984 in Tokyo. He began directing films and music videos while working as a commercial planner at a major advertising agency.

Nagahisa wrote and directed the short film And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool (2017), for which he became the first Japanese director to win the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. His feature debut We Are Little Zombies (2019) premiered at Sundance, where it received the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Originality, and screened at the Berlin International Film Festival. He directed one episode of the Apple TV+ series Sunny (2024).
