Biography
Manuel Álvarez Maciste was a Mexican actor, singer, guitarist and composer. Born on 8 August 1892 in Tequila, Jalisco, he appeared in several Hollywood films during the 1930s.
His screen credits include the role of the singer in Only Angels Have Wings (1939), Pedro in The Firefly (1937) and a guitarist in The Gay Desperado (1936). He is also known as a songwriter, notably for the bolero "Angelitos Negros" with lyrics by Andrés Eloy Blanco.
Maciste died on 13 October 1960 in Mexico City.
