Biography
Manuel De Sica (1949–2014) was an Italian composer of film scores and concert music. The son of director Vittorio De Sica and actress María Mercader, he studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Bruno Maderna. He began composing for cinema in 1968, providing the score for his father's The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970) at the age of 21.
De Sica wrote music for numerous Italian films and television productions, including works by Carlo Verdone, Maurizio Nichetti and his brother Christian De Sica. Among his credits are Cemetery Man (1994), the Christmas Vacation series and A Walk in Time (1996). He received the Nastro d'Argento for Best Score in 1993 for Al lupo al lupo and the David di Donatello in 1996 for Celluloide. He was married to producer Tilde Corsi and had a son, director Andrea De Sica.
