Biography
Mara Leveritt is an American investigative reporter and author. She has covered crime, police, courts and prisons in Arkansas for more than thirty years, with a focus on cases widely viewed as miscarriages of justice.
Her best-known book, Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three (2002), examines the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis and the convictions of three teenagers. The book was adapted into a feature film in 2013. Leveritt appears as herself in the 2012 documentary West of Memphis. Other works include The Boys on the Tracks (1999) and Dark Spell (2014).
Leveritt has received Arkansas’s Booker Worthen Literary Prize twice, a Laman Writers Fellowship and induction into the Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame. She lives in Little Rock.
