Biography

Marco Brambilla is an Italian-born Canadian artist and film director. Born in Milan, he was raised in Canada and studied film at Ryerson University in Toronto. He began his career directing television commercials before making his feature debut with the science-fiction action film Demolition Man (1993), starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes.

Brambilla went on to direct Excess Baggage (1997) and episodes of the miniseries Dinotopia (2002), as well as a segment of the anthology film Destricted (2006). In the late 1990s he shifted focus to video art and installations, with works exhibited at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. His projects include the Megaplex series of video collages.
