Biography
Margalo Gillmore (born Margaret Lorraine Gillmore) was an English-born American actress. She made her Broadway debut in 1917 in The Scrap of Paper and appeared regularly with the Theatre Guild. Her stage career included originating roles in The Women (1936) and State of the Union (1945), as well as performances in The Barretts of Wimpole Street during the Second World War.
Gillmore trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She appeared in a small number of films, notably as Mrs. Lord in High Society (1956), Mrs. Edwards in Cause for Alarm! (1951) and Sister Barbara in The Trouble with Angels (1966). Her final stage role was in Noël Coward’s Sail Away on Broadway in 1961.
She was the daughter of actor Frank Gillmore, a founder of Actors’ Equity, and was married to actor-director Robert Ross from 1935 until his death in 1954.
