Biography
Mariangela Melato was an Italian actress who appeared in cinema and theatre. Born in Milan in 1941, she studied painting at the Brera Academy before training as an actor. She made her stage debut in 1960 and worked with companies including those of Fantasio Piccoli, Dario Fo and Luchino Visconti.
Melato's film career began in 1969 with Pupi Avati's Thomas e gli indemoniati. She became known for her roles in films directed by Lina Wertmüller, including The Seduction of Mimi (1972), Love and Anarchy (1973) and Swept Away (1974), often opposite Giancarlo Giannini. Other notable screen credits include The Working Class Goes to Heaven (1971), One Way or Another (1976) and Flash Gordon (1980), in which she played Kala.
She continued working in theatre and film until the 2010s and died in Rome in 2013.
