Biography
Mariano Marín is a Spanish composer and pianist. He was born on 25 May 1959 in Pradoluengo, Burgos. He studied piano at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música Antonio de Cabezón in Burgos and later pursued specialisation in improvisation, harmony, electroacoustics, composition, orchestration and film music.
Marín began composing for theatre at the age of 20 and has provided original music for nearly one hundred stage productions. In film he is credited as composer or orchestrator on Alejandro Amenábar’s Thesis (1996) and Open Your Eyes (1997), and as composer on To Let (2006). His other screen work includes Diary of a Nymphomaniac (2008) and several shorts and features from the 2010s and 2020s.
He has received the Ceres Award for best musical composition (2015) and the Helen Hayes Award for outstanding sound design (2015). Marín has also arranged and performed with artists including Eliseo Parra, Paco Ibáñez and Carmen Linares.
