Biography
Mario Pannunzio (1910–1968) was an Italian journalist, writer and screenwriter. Born in Lucca, he trained at the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia in the mid-1930s and contributed screenplays to several films, including I grandi magazzini (1939), Capitan Fracassa (1940), La maschera di Cesare Borgia (1941) and Europa '51 (1952).
Pannunzio was best known as a journalist and editor. He co-directed Oggi in the late 1930s and early 1940s, directed Risorgimento liberale after the war, and in 1949 founded and edited the influential weekly Il Mondo until its closure in 1966. He was active in the Italian Liberal Party and later helped found the Radical Party.
