Biography
Mark Gustafson (1959–2024) was an American animator and film director. He began his stop-motion career in the 1980s at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, Oregon, contributing to projects including the California Raisins commercials and directing episodes of the series The PJs (1999).
Gustafson served as animation director on Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). He co-directed Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022) with Guillermo del Toro; the film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, which Gustafson shared with del Toro, Gary Ungar and Alex Bulkley. He also received BAFTA and Annie awards for the film.
