Biography

Martyn Burke is a Canadian writer, director, producer and novelist. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, he studied economics at McMaster University and began his career as a freelance journalist and photographer covering the Vietnam War.

Burke co-wrote the screenplay for the 1984 Paramount comedy Top Secret!. He wrote and directed the 1999 television film Pirates of Silicon Valley, and wrote the teleplays for The Second Civil War (1997) and The Pentagon Wars (1998). His other credits include the screenplay for the 1999 television adaptation of Animal Farm and directing the 2002 feature Avenging Angelo.

He has received a Peabody Award for the 2011 documentary Under Fire: Journalists in Combat and Emmy and Writers Guild of America nominations for his television work. Burke has also published several novels.
