Biography
Mateo Gil is a Spanish screenwriter, film director and occasional assistant director. Born on 23 September 1972 in Las Palmas, Spain, he studied at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, where he met Alejandro Amenábar.
Gil co-wrote several of Amenábar's films, including Open Your Eyes (1997), The Sea Inside (2004) and Agora (2009). He has also written The Method (2005) and Realive (2016), and directed features such as Nobody Knows Anybody (1999), Blackthorn (2011) and The Laws of Thermodynamics (2018).
He has won four Goya Awards, including for Best Original Screenplay for The Sea Inside and Agora, and Best Adapted Screenplay for The Method.
