Biography
Mathilda May is a French actress and director. Born Karin Haïm on 8 February 1965, she trained as a ballerina at the Conservatoire de Paris, winning the Premier Prix at age 16, before turning to acting.
She made her film debut in Nemo (1984) and gained international recognition for her role as Space Girl in Lifeforce (1985). In France, she received the César Award for Most Promising Actress in 1988 for Le Cri du Hibou (1987) and the Prix Romy Schneider in 1989. Other credits include The Jackal (1997) and The Tit and the Moon (1994).
May's work is primarily in French and European productions. She has also appeared in theatre and recorded an album, Joy of Love, in 1992.
