Biography
Matthew Barry is a Welsh screenwriter. He studied history and politics at the University of Warwick and is an alumnus of the BBC Writers' Academy. He was named a Broadcast Hot Shot in 2011 and received a BAFTA Rocliffe Comedy award in 2012.
Barry began his career writing for continuing dramas, including multiple episodes of EastEnders (2011–2018), Casualty (2012–2018, including the 30th anniversary episode) and Holby City. His other credits include episodes of Death in Paradise (2015–2016), Banana (2015), Stella (2015–2017) and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018–2020).
He wrote the BBC drama Men Up (2023) and created and wrote the series The Guest (2025). Men Up won him the BAFTA Cymru award for best writer as well as RTS Wales and other awards.
