Biography
Maureen Delaney, also billed as Maureen Delany, was an Irish stage and screen actress. Born Maureen Barry O'Delany on 1 December 1888 in Kilkenny, she trained at the Abbey School of Acting in Dublin under Lennox Robinson and made her stage debut in 1914 in Edward McNulty's The Lord Mayor.
She became a noted comic actress at the Abbey Theatre, particularly associated with roles in plays by Seán O'Casey, including Maisie Madigan in Juno and the Paycock and Bessie Burgess in The Plough and the Stars, as well as the Widow Quin in J.M. Synge's The Playboy of the Western World. Her film credits include Theresa O'Brien in Odd Man Out (1947), Flo in Under Capricorn (1949) and Anna O'Leary in Night and the City (1950). She received a Tony Award nomination in 1959 for her Broadway role in God and Kate Murphy. Delaney died in London on 27 March 1961.
