Biography
Max Schreck was a German actor. Born Friedrich Gustav Maximilian Schreck in Berlin in 1879, he trained at the Berlin State Theatre and worked in various theatres, including a period with the Munich Kammerspiele. He appeared in films from the early 1920s onwards.
Schreck is best known for his performance as the vampire Count Orlok in F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922). He also appeared in other silent films including The Mayor of Zalamea (1920) and Nathan the Wise (1922), and worked again with Murnau on The Grand Duke's Finances (1924). He continued acting on stage and in films into the sound era until his death in Munich in 1936.
