Biography
Maksim Mikhaylov (also credited as M. Mikhaylov) was a Soviet opera singer (bass-profoundo) and actor. Born on 25 August 1893 in Koltsovka, Kazan Governorate, Russian Empire (now Chuvash Republic, Russia), he began singing in church choirs and trained as a protodeacon of the Russian Orthodox Church before becoming a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre from 1932 to 1956.
He appeared in several films, including as the Archdeacon in Sergei Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible, Part I (1944), Chub in Slippers (1945), Petrov in The Great Glinka (1946) and Pimen in Boris Godunov (1954). Mikhaylov was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1940 and received two Stalin Prizes of the first degree. He died on 30 March 1971 in Moscow.
