Biography
Mélanie Gouby is an investigative journalist, writer and documentary filmmaker based in London. She studied Politics and International Relations at University College London. From 2009 to 2011 she covered trials at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, and from 2011 to 2014 she lived in Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, reporting for the Associated Press on the M23 rebellion and related issues.
She gained recognition for her investigation into British oil company Soco International’s activities in Virunga National Park, which featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga (2014), in which she appears. The work earned a One World Media award for Corruption Reporting. She was East Africa correspondent for Le Figaro from 2014 to 2016 and has contributed to outlets including Newsweek, France 24, Vice, Foreign Policy and the Washington Post. In 2019 she was nominated for the Mary Chirwa Award for Courageous Leadership.
