Biography
Michael Laughlin was an American film producer, writer and director. Born Michael Stoddard Laughlin on 28 November 1938 in Minonk, Illinois, he was raised in the state and graduated from Principia College in 1960 after studying at Stanford University. He began his career as a producer in London in the late 1960s before returning to the United States.
Laughlin produced the 1971 road film Two-Lane Blacktop, directed by Monte Hellman. He later wrote and directed Strange Behavior (1981), Strange Invaders (1983) and Mesmerized (1985). He co-wrote the screenplay for Town & Country (2001). He was married to the actress Leslie Caron from 1969 until their divorce in 1980.
Laughlin died on 20 October 2021 in Honolulu, Hawaii, aged 82.
