Biography

Michael McKell is an English actor and singer. Born on 10 February 1959 in Bethnal Green, London, he began his career in the 1980s as a singer and songwriter before a car crash in 1991 prompted a shift to acting. He trained for three years at the Lee Strasberg Institute and made his stage debut producing and starring in Macbeth at the Lyric Hammersmith, followed by a West End appearance in the musical Blood Brothers.

McKell is known for television roles including Inspector Trevor Hands in Murder Investigation Team (2003–2005), Dr Nick West in Doctors (2006–2008), for which he received a Royal Television Society award, and Nick Henshall in Emmerdale (2008–2011). His film credits include Wayne Lovell in Essex Boys (2000), the German Officer at Anfa Café in Allied (2016), and appearances in Where Hands Touch (2018), Once Upon a Time in London (2019) and Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher (2022). He has also released music albums, including The Last Picture Show in 2023.
