Biography

Michael O'Connor is a British costume designer. Born in London on 27 October 1965, he trained in theatre as a dresser at the Old Vic before working for six years in a costume house and becoming freelance.

He began film work in the 1990s as wardrobe supervisor on titles including Emma (1996) and advanced to assistant costume designer on films such as Quills (2000). O'Connor won the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design for The Duchess (2008). His credits also include The Last King of Scotland (2006), Jane Eyre (2011), Dredd (2012), Ammonite (2020) and Lee (2024).
