Biography
Michael Robert Johnson is a British screenwriter. A native of Whickham in Gateshead, he began making films as a teenager with childhood friend and director Neil Marshall. He attended drama school and briefly studied at film school in London before working as a camera assistant from 2001.
Johnson received his first major screen credit for the story and screenplay of Sherlock Holmes (2009), directed by Guy Ritchie. He later wrote the screenplay for Pompeii (2014) and Mute (2018), and created and wrote the television series King & Conqueror (2025). He has also contributed to The Frankenstein Chronicles (2017).
