Biography
José Miguel Miranda is a Chilean composer and pianist. Born in Santiago in 1961, he studied composition privately and began working in film and television in the 1990s, often in collaboration with José Miguel Tobar as the duo Miranda y Tobar (or Miranda & Tobar).
The pair have composed original scores for numerous Chilean productions, including Machuca (2004), Nostalgia for the Light (2010), Violeta Went to Heaven (2011), The Pearl Button (2015) and The Eternal Memory (2023). Miranda has also worked independently on theatre and dance projects.
Their film scores have received several awards, among them the Georges Delerue Prize for Machuca and multiple Pedro Sienna Awards.
