Biography
Mikhail Nazvanov was a Soviet stage and film actor. Born in Moscow in 1914, he studied acting at the Drama Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre after graduating from a music college.
He made his film debut in Wait for Me (1943). Sergei Eisenstein cast him as Prince Andrei Kurbsky in Ivan the Terrible, Part I (1944) and its sequel Ivan the Terrible, Part II: The Boyars' Plot (1958). Other notable screen roles include appearances in films by directors such as Grigori Aleksandrov, Vsevolod Pudovkin, Mikhail Romm and Grigori Kozintsev, including Claudius in Hamlet (1964). He also directed The Mistress of the Inn (1956).
Nazvanov was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1949 and received three Stalin Prizes.
