Biography
Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky is a Russian Orientalist and museum director. Born in Yerevan in 1944, he studied at Leningrad State University and obtained a doctorate in Arabic linguistics. He succeeded his father, Boris Piotrovsky, as director of the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg in 1992.
Piotrovsky has overseen the museum for more than three decades, expanding its international presence through partnerships and exhibitions. He appears as himself, the Hermitage director, in Alexander Sokurov's Russian Ark (2002).
