Biography
Mingjue Helen Chen, also credited as Helen Mingjue Chen, is a production designer and visual development artist working in animation. She is a first-generation Chinese American born in Beijing and raised in Minnesota. She studied traditional Chinese watercolour painting and calligraphy before graduating from the Academy of Art University in 2010.
Chen began her animation career as an illustrator on Frankenweenie (2012). She spent nearly ten years at Walt Disney Animation Studios, contributing to Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Big Hero 6 (2014) and Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), and serving as production designer on Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). She has also worked as art director on Wonder Park (2019) and as production designer on KPop Demon Hunters (2025) for Sony Pictures Animation.
She has received an Annie Award for her work on KPop Demon Hunters and has contributed to comics and publishing projects for DC Comics, Marvel and Boom Studios.
