Biography
Minoru Miki (三木 稔) was a Japanese composer and artistic director. He was born on 16 March 1930 in Tokushima Prefecture and died on 8 December 2011 in Tokyo.
He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1964 he founded the ensemble Pro Musica Nipponia (Nihon Ongaku Shūdan), for which he composed extensively and which he directed for twenty years. He promoted the use of traditional Japanese, Chinese and Korean instruments in contemporary music.
Miki composed the score for the film In the Realm of the Senses (1976), directed by Nagisa Ōshima. His catalogue includes operas, orchestral and chamber works, and other film scores. He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1994 and the Order of the Rising Sun in 2000.
