Biography

Miriam Cutler is an American composer based in Los Angeles, known primarily for her work on documentary films. She began her musical career as a songwriter and clarinet player with The New Miss Alice Stone Ladies Society Orchestra, later joining the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo and founding Swingstreet. She has also composed for Circus Flora and co-produced jazz albums.

Cutler has scored numerous documentaries, including Lost in La Mancha (2002), The Hunting Ground (2015), A Plastic Ocean (2016), RBG (2018) and Love, Gilda (2018). In 2014 she co-founded the Alliance for Women Film Composers. She has received Primetime Emmy nominations for original scores on RBG and Love, Gilda, and a Hollywood Music in Media Award for The Hunting Ground. Cutler has served as a lab advisor for the Sundance Institute Documentary Composers Lab since 2003 and on various film festival juries.
