Biography
Mohammad Rasoulof is an Iranian film director, screenwriter and producer. Born in Shiraz in 1972, he studied sociology at Shiraz University and film editing at Soore University in Tehran.
He is known for independent features including A Man of Integrity (2017) and There Is No Evil (2020), the latter of which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. His films have repeatedly led to conflict with Iranian authorities, including arrests, passport confiscation and bans on leaving the country.
Rasoulof wrote, directed and produced The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2024), which premiered in competition at Cannes. In May 2024 he was sentenced to eight years in prison, flogging and a fine; he subsequently fled Iran and now lives in exile in Germany.
