Biography

Montserrat Carulla (1930–2020) was a Spanish actress. She began her career in amateur theatre and completed training with courses at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona in the late 1940s. She made her professional stage debut in 1959 or 1960 and became a prominent figure in Catalan theatre after returning to Barcelona in 1964 following periods in Madrid.

She appeared in numerous stage productions, television series and films, including the role of Benigna in The Orphanage (2007) and Carme in Barcelona Christmas Night (2015). Carulla also worked extensively as a voice actor in dubbing. She received several awards, among them the Creu de Sant Jordi in 1995 and the Gaudí d'Honor in 2013, the first woman to receive the latter.

She was married to actor Felip Peña (later separated) and was the mother of actors Vicky Peña and Roger Peña.
