Biography
Morando Morandini (1924–2015) was an Italian film critic, journalist, author and occasional actor. Born in Milan, he began his career as a journalist in 1947 and wrote about cinema, television and theatre for newspapers including L'Ordine, La Notte and, from 1965 to 1998, Il Giorno. In 1958 he founded the specialist magazine Schermi.
He is best known for the annual film dictionary Il Morandini, published by Zanichelli from 1998 and containing around 26,000 of his reviews. He also co-authored a multi-volume Storia del cinema and directed the Bellaria film festival from 1984 to 1997, returning in 2002. In 1964 he appeared as Cesare, Fabrizio's teacher, in Bernardo Bertolucci's Before the Revolution. He received the Flaiano Prize for film criticism in 1995.
