Biography
Mutsumi Toyoshima was a Japanese production designer who worked on Toho special effects films from the 1960s to the 1980s. He attended Musashino Art College in the mid-1950s, majoring in art, and joined Toho Studio in 1959, initially working on sets before being promoted to designer by Yasuyuki Inoue.
He created blueprints for numerous vehicles, props and machines in the studio’s monster, science fiction and war films. His credits include production design on The War of the Gargantuas (1966), Son of Godzilla (1967), King Kong Escapes (1967), Destroy All Monsters (1968), Latitude Zero (1969) and The Return of Godzilla (1984).
Toyoshima left Toho in the early 1980s to work on the construction of Tokyo Disneyland and later DisneySea for Oriental Land, completing that project in 2003.
