Biography
Naushad Ali (25 December 1919 – 5 May 2006) was an Indian composer for Hindi films. Born in Lucknow in the United Provinces of British India, he studied Hindustani classical music before moving to Bombay in 1937. His first film as an independent music director was Prem Nagar (1940); Rattan (1944) established his reputation.
He scored the music for Mother India (1957) and Mughal-e-Azam (1960). Naushad worked on more than sixty films, often in long collaborations with directors such as Mehboob Khan. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1981 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992.
