Biography
Ni Kuang (also credited as Ai Hong, Ngai Hong and others) was a Hong Kong novelist and screenwriter. Born Ni Cong in Shanghai in 1935, he fled mainland China in 1957 and settled in Hong Kong, where he became one of the most prolific writers in the territory's film industry.
He wrote or co-wrote hundreds of screenplays, many for the Shaw Brothers Studio in collaboration with director Chang Cheh. His credits include The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978), The Five Venoms (1978), One-Armed Swordsman (1967) and Crippled Avengers (1978). He also created story elements and characters for Bruce Lee films such as Fist of Fury (1972), though he often went uncredited. In addition to his film work, he authored over 300 novels, most notably the long-running Wisely science-fiction series.
Ni received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 2012. He died in Hong Kong on 3 July 2022.
