Biography
Nick Leather is a British playwright and screenwriter. He grew up in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, and began his career in theatre as a playwright at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre, later serving as its Playwright-in-Residence.
Leather created the CBBC children's series Rocket's Island (2012–2015), which ran for three seasons and received BAFTA nominations for Best Children's Drama. His television credits include episodes of Hollyoaks, Broken, The Worst Witch and All Creatures Great & Small, as well as the single dramas Murdered for Being Different (2017) and Mother's Day (2018). He also wrote the series The Control Room (2022), Suspicion (2022) and Nightsleeper (2024).
Murdered for Being Different won the BAFTA and RTS awards for Best Single Drama. Leather has received additional recognition from the RTS and the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, including for his work on Hollyoaks.
