Biography
Nicolas Hayer was a French cinematographer. Born Lucien Nicolas Hayer in Paris on 1 May 1898, he began his career in the late 1920s as a newsreel cameraman before moving into feature films in the early 1930s, initially credited as Lucien Hayer.
He served as director of photography on films including Le Corbeau (1943), Panique (1946), La Chartreuse de Parme (1948), Orpheus (1950) and Le Doulos (1962). He received the Locarno International Film Festival award for best cinematography (black and white) in 1948 for La Chartreuse de Parme and later contributed to television series in the 1960s.
Hayer died on 29 October 1978 in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, France.
