Biography
Nigel Green (also credited as Nigel Greene) was a South African-born British character actor. Born in Pretoria on 15 October 1924, he was educated in England, studied chemical engineering, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He appeared on stage at the Old Vic and Stratford-on-Avon before making his film and television debuts in the early 1950s.
Green was frequently cast in military and authoritarian roles owing to his build and demeanour. His notable film appearances include Hercules in Jason and the Argonauts (1963), Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne in Zulu (1964), Ludovico in The Masque of the Red Death (1964), Major Dalby in The Ipcress File (1965), and Captain Dobi in Countess Dracula (1971). He also worked in television, including episodes of The Avengers and The Persuaders!. Green died in Brighton on 15 May 1972.
