Biography
Niki Caro is a New Zealand film director and screenwriter. Born in Wellington, she graduated with a BFA from the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland and received a postgraduate diploma in film from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.
Her breakthrough came with the 2002 feature Whale Rider, which received international acclaim and numerous festival awards. Subsequent films include North Country (2005), McFarland, USA (2015), The Zookeeper's Wife (2017) and Mulan (2020). Caro was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of her contributions to film.
