Biography
Nikita Sergeyevich Mikhalkov is a Russian film director, screenwriter and actor. Born in Moscow on 21 October 1945, he began his career as an actor, appearing in films including The Red and the White (1967). He studied acting at the Shchukin School and later directing at VGIK.
Mikhalkov made his directorial debut with At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among His Own (1974). His subsequent films include An Unfinished Piece for Player Piano (1977), Oblomov (1980), Dark Eyes (1987), Close to Eden (1991), Burnt by the Sun (1994) and The Barber of Siberia (1998). He has also directed 12 (2007) and sequels to Burnt by the Sun.
He is the son of writer Sergey Mikhalkov and the brother of director Andrei Konchalovsky. Mikhalkov has received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for Burnt by the Sun, the Golden Lion at Venice for Close to Eden, and multiple Russian state awards.
