Biography
Nikolai Petrovich Burlyayev (also credited as Nikolay Burlyaev) is a Soviet and Russian actor, film director and politician. Born in Moscow in 1946, he began acting as a child and made his film debut in the short The Boy and the Dove (1960). He is best known for his lead performance as Ivan in Andrei Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood (1962) and as Boriska in Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev (1966).
Burlyayev trained at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, graduating in 1967, and later at the Film Directors’ Faculty of VGIK, graduating in 1975. His other screen credits include Wartime Romance (1983) and Lermontov (1986). He founded the Zolotoi Vityaz film festival in 1991 and was elected to the State Duma in 2021.
