Biography
Nikos Mamangakis was a Greek composer. He was born on 3 March 1929 in Rethymno, Crete, and died on 24 July 2013 in Athens.
He studied at the Athens Conservatory and, from 1957, at the Munich Conservatory with Carl Orff and Harald Genzmer, later working on electronic music at the Siemens studio. Mamangakis composed extensively for film, television and theatre, both in Greece and Germany. He is best known for writing the music for Edgar Reitz’s Heimat (1984) and its sequels Die zweite Heimat (1992) and Heimat 3 (2004), contributing more than twenty hours of music across the trilogy.
