Biography
Nikos Papatakis was a Greek filmmaker born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He moved to Paris in 1939, where he worked as a film extra and later owned the nightclub La Rose Rouge. In 1957 he relocated to New York, where he became co-producer of John Cassavetes' Shadows (1959).
Papatakis directed Les Abysses (1963), Oi Voskoi (1967), The Photograph (1986) and Walking a Tightrope (1992). He was also active in the Front de Libération Nationale during the Algerian War and produced Jean Genet's short film Un Chant d'Amour (1950). He died in Paris in 2010.
