Biography
Ningali Lawford, also credited as Ningali Lawford-Wolf, was an Aboriginal Australian actor. She was born in 1967 in Wangkatjungka, Western Australia, and died on 11 August 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lawford began her career as a dancer with the Aboriginal Islander Dance Theatre and Bangarra Dance Theatre. Her stage work included the one-woman show Ningali (1994–1996), which toured internationally, and later productions with companies including Belvoir, Black Swan State Theatre Company and Sydney Theatre Company. On screen she played Maude, Molly’s mother, in Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002), Theresa Johnson in Bran Nue Dae (2009) and Polly in Last Cab to Darwin (2015), for which she received an AACTA Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She also appeared in the television series Mystery Road (2018).
