Biography
Norbert Jacques (also credited as Norbert Jaques) was a Luxembourgish novelist, journalist, screenwriter and translator who wrote in German. He was born on 6 June 1880 in Eich, Luxembourg, and died on 15 May 1954 in Koblenz, West Germany. He received German citizenship in 1922.
Jacques created the character Dr. Mabuse in his 1921 novel Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler, which became a bestseller. He wrote the novel and contributed to the screenplay for the 1922 film Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler, directed by Fritz Lang. The character featured in later novels and adaptations, including The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933).
