Biography
Norma Bengell (born Norma Aparecida Almeida Pinto Guimarães d'Áurea Bengell) was a Brazilian actress, director, producer, singer and songwriter. She began her career in the early 1950s in revue theatre, launched by producer Carlos Machado, and made her film debut in 1959.
She is known for her role as the prostitute Marly in Anselmo Duarte's The Given Word (1962), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and for appearing in Ruy Guerra's Os Cafajestes (1962). Bengell worked extensively in Italy during the 1960s, appearing in films including Mafioso (1962), Planet of the Vampires (1965) and The Hellbenders (1967). She later directed features such as Eternamente Pagu (1987) and The Guarani (1996).
Bengell was married to Italian actor Gabriele Tinti. She died in Rio de Janeiro on 9 October 2013.
