Biography
Oldřich Okáč was a Czech production designer and art director. He began his career as an assistant architect on historical films directed by Otakar Vávra in the 1950s, including Jan Hus (1954), Jan Žižka (1955) and Proti všem (1957). From the mid-1960s he worked as lead production designer on numerous feature films and television productions.
Okáč is best known for his work on Marketa Lazarová (1967), for which he received the Trilobit award in 1968, The Ear (1970), The Little Mermaid (1976) and Shadows of a Hot Summer (1978). He collaborated frequently with directors František Vláčil and Karel Kachyňa. He was born on 14 April 1925 in Starina u Staré Ľubovni and died on 13 February 1987 in Prague.
