Biography
Oleg Cassini was a fashion and costume designer. Born Oleg Cassini Loiewski in Paris in 1913 to an aristocratic Russian family with maternal Italian ancestry, he trained in Florence and began his career in Rome before moving to the United States in the 1930s.
He secured work with Paramount Pictures in Hollywood and designed costumes for numerous films in the 1940s, including The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Night and the City (1950), Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), Unfaithfully Yours (1948) and Whirlpool (1950). He later became known as the principal designer for First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the early 1960s.
Cassini died in Manhasset, New York, in 2006.
